The fire started in a residence at 146 West Richardson Avenue in Langhorne Borough at 5:20 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, state police said. Flames quickly spread to the adjoining residence next door at 144 West Richardson Avenue.
Multiple fire departments responded to the scene to assist with extinguishing the fire, according to state police.
One unconscious resident was rescued by fire crews and seven others self-evacuated, according to the Langhorne-Middletown Fire Company.
A total of eight people from both homes escaped the fire, and all of them required medical treatment, state police said. Five people were taken to Saint Mary's Medical Center, while another was taken to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital. Two others were eventually life flighted to Temple University Hospital.
Four cats and one dog died in the fire, according to state police.
The fire doesn't appear to be suspicious and there is no evidence it was politically motivated, state police said.
Pennsylvania State Police Troop M's fire marshal is the lead investigator in this case, and the fire is still under investigation, according to the news release.
Troop M Trevose Patrol Unit, Troop M Forensic Services Unit, Trevose Criminal Investigation Unit, Middletown Fire and Emergency Services, Langhorne Middletown Fire Company, Parkland Fire Company, Penndel Fire Company and Penndel Middletown Emergency Squad assisted at the scene.
